Provocative confrontation of video of oil trains transporting up to 360 barrels of oil a day, projected into the beauty of a sea shell, represents the fragility of the environment in relation to potential oil spills together with the process of “fracking” used to extract the oil from underground.
Oil trains travel through the center of small towns and the backyard of urban areas to ocean ports for exporting oil to foreign countries.
In addition to the environmental impact, this “oil rush” has transformed the social and cultural milieu of these small towns. The enormity of this industrial activity has created an influx of oil field workers, housing shortages, and increased service needs.
The video of the oil trains in the new oil fields of Montana and North Dakota, was captured while traveling on Amtrak through this area.
